The President of the Republic Paul Biya, signed on August 26, 2022, a decree empowering Alamine Ousmane Mey, Minister of Economy, Planning and Regional Development (Minepat), to sign with Deutsche Bank Italy, a loan agreement in the amount of 61,556,260,206 FCFA with the SACE guarantee, for the financing of the first phase of the construction project of the road Olounou-Oveng-Gabon border-bridge over the river Kom on the Olounou crossroads section -Mvan.

For the record, the Minister of Public Works (Mintp) Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi on February 15, 2021, in the presence of the Italian Ambassador to Cameroon, HE Marco Romiti, signed a commercial contract with the company SEAS, represented by its managing director , Francesco Pauseli, for the construction of the Olounou-Oveng road in the South region.

This contract will make it possible to involve the Italian company SEAS in phase I of the construction project of the Olounou-Oveng road at the Gabon border (105 km) Olounou-Oveng section which covers a length of 70 km, for an estimated cost of works amounting to 67 billion FCFA the cross section provides for a road of 1 x 2 lanes of 3.5 m in compliance with the current layout.

A shoulder of 1.25 m, construction of 59 transverse drainage works, construction of 13 bridges of different lengths for a total length of 260 ml, a reference speed of 60 km/h, construction of crossroads; the realization of horizontal and vertical signaling of safety equipment. The duration of the works is 24 months.

The financing, object of this commercial contract also takes into account: the technical and geotechnical controls, the construction of an automatic toll station, a weighing station, a counting station. The financing of an environmental and social management plan with the construction of social infrastructure for the benefit of the populations is planned, so that the Olounou-Oveng road contributes to improving the quality of life of the populations of the intervention area.

Mintp explained last year that “the choice of this axis within the framework of a road section project of the three-year emergency plan for the acceleration of growth, is generally justified by the desire to open production basins by connecting each of the cities concerned by this project to the structuring network; extend the asphalt network in the southern region to the main production basins; facilitate the flow of agro-pastoral production to the main consumption centers of the country and Gabon; improve people’s access to basic infrastructure; improve the income of the populations by facilitating the sale of their production”.
