Separatists burn down the dormitory of the “Queen of the Rosary College Okoyong” in Mamfe

Armed men presented as English-speaking separatists attacked and set fire to the dormitory of the “Queen of the Rosary College Okoyong” in Mamfe, in the South West of Cameroon.

Militiamen from the Ambazonia Restoration Forces (ARF) claimed responsibility for the attack on Queen of the Rosary College Okoyong in Mamfe in the South West region. This incursion took place on the night of February 10 to 11, 2022.

According to testimonies, the separatists broke into the boarding school of this denominational establishment, and set fire to the buildings in front of panicked students. These alleged separatists also threatened students not to march on February 11 to celebrate Cameroon’s National Youth Day.

Indeed, at the beginning of the week, separatist movements, like the Ambazonia War Council, announced a “ Lockdown ” to prevent the holding of the youth festival.

Elsewhere in the area, gunmen attacked two buses carrying students for the February 11 parade. The abducted students would belong to the Government Bilingual High School Mudeka not far from Tiko. Information that SBBC could not confirm from an independent source.

This new attack is reminiscent of the one perpetrated on November 24, 2021 against a school in Ekondo Titi, killing three students and a teacher.

“Attacks on schools must desperately stop, whatever the purpose. They are unjustifiable and their authors must be held responsible. And of course, every attack must be thoroughly, impartially investigated to establish accountability,” wrote Arrey Elvis Ntui, senior Cameroon analyst for International Crisis Group.
