The SDO of Mezam, Simon Emile Mooh, has banned undeclared public meetings and demonstrations for an indefinite period throughout his command area. This is the content of a prefectural decree signed on September 29, 2023.
The document warns that violators will be punished in accordance with existing rules and regulations. Analysts were quick to react to the decision by affirming that the SDOt’s decision relates to October 1, the independence day of Southern Cameroon, celebrated by the separatists.
Since 2018, as October 1 approaches, all SDO in English-speaking Cameroon always signed orders prohibiting unauthorized gatherings.
This is to prevent separatist fighters and their supporters from demonstrating in a military or civil manner in the North-West and South-West regions of the country.
