The attack attributed to separatists took place at Mile 4 Nkwen in the North-West regional capital on 9 August 2024.
Two police officers were killed in a bomb blast last Friday morning as they were on duty at a checkpoint. A homemade bomb hidden in one of the tires they use to block the road for checks exploded, tearing their bodies to pieces. The explosion occurred when one of the police officers carried the tire to place it on the road as they usually did. A civilian in the area where the explosive was impacted was injured and taken to a health facility in the city.
The tragic death of the two police officers shows that the crisis that has been going on for eight years is not yet over. Armed groups opposing the Defense and Security Forces continue to carry out deadly attacks against soldiers and civilians. They most often target times of large gatherings to increase attacks. One of these times is the start of the school year. The return to school scheduled for the beginning of each September is often preceded or followed by abuses, especially against civilians who are members of the educational community. The so-called Anglophone crisis has left more than 6,000 dead and 800,000 displaced seven years after it began, according to the International Crisis Group.
