A humanitarian convoy of about twenty trucks left Yaoundé, from the boulevard du 20-Mai, heading for Yagoua, in the Far North region.
This convoy is carrying emergency supplies for flood victims in Yagoua, according to information from the Ministry of Territorial Administration (Minat). More specifically, these are temporary shelters, mattresses, blankets, mosquito nets, food, sanitary kits, and other utilities. The Minat, Paul Atanga Nji, adds that this convoy will be reinforced by 12 trucks stationed in Garoua, in the North region, which will also head for Yagoua. The convoy will be supplemented by 12 other trucks waiting in Maroua, capital of the Far North region.
In Yagoua, the news of the arrival of this humanitarian convoy has generated a lot of enthusiasm. “We learned the news on social media and all we have to do now is wait for this convoy, just like the arrival of Minister Paul Atanga Nji,” explains journalist Ben Daouda, director of Yagoua Infos. Minister Paul Atanga Nji has been announced in Yagoua for several days, following Célestine Ketcha Courtès, Minister of Housing and Urban Development (Minhdu), who brought food to flood victims in Yagoua a few days ago. On several discussion platforms on social media, many Yagoua residents had begun to think that this convoy was a subterfuge to deceive public opinion.
As a reminder, this equipment is financed by President Paul Biya, who released a sum of 350 million FCFA to help the people of Yagoua. According to Minat, this envelope has been revised upwards and now reaches the amount of 1.9 billion FCFA.
