In a communiqué released this Thursday, December 2, 2021, the president of the Alliance of Progressive Forces, Cyrille Sam Mbaka reacted to the Maurice Kamto affair, which has hit the headlines since Wednesday, December 1.
The president of the Mouvement pour la renaissance du Cameroun (MRC), staying at the Hôtel de la Vallée des Princes in Douala, was prevented from going about his business freely. The opposition leader was “kidnapped” when he was supposed to take part in a literary protest.
Maurice is a man of many hats and it is in his capacity as a man of culture that he was to dedicate his works. Cyrille Sam Mbaka finds this unacceptable. “That we come to forbid an artist to dedicate his works in a temple of culture, to commune with his audience, to convey the cultural values dear to our people … is a serious obstacle to both human rights and to fundamental freedoms, than to the deep expression of our collective literary culture. This is unacceptable! ”Said the president of the AFP.
The politician deplores the fact that this militarization of the city of Douala during Maurice Kamto’s stay in the economic capital of Cameroon has paralyzed the economic activity of the inhabitants of Douala.
Faced with this situation, the former activist and UDC executive believes that we should not be quiet. And as such, he invites politicians from the opposition and from civil society to reflect on a framework for consultation and work to take charge of the common destiny of Cameroonians.
