Cameroon-United Nations: Special Representative at the Unity Palace

The President of the Republic, Paul Biya, received on the 29th March 2023 at the Unity Palace, the new Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General for Central Africa and head of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa (UNOCA), Abdou Abarry.

The exchange lasted about thirty minutes according to the website of the Presidency of the Republic of Cameroon. The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General for Central Africa, also Head of the United Nations Regional Office for Central Africa, told the press that he was carrying a “personal message” from Antonio Guterres .

Appointed to the post on July 28, 2022, the Nigerian diplomat made his first visit to Cameroon.
Bearer of a message from the Secretary-General of the United Nations to the President of the Republic, Abdou Abarry hailed, on behalf of the United Nations Organization, the key role played by Cameroon in the areas of peace, welcoming thousands of refugees and its availability in the various peacekeeping operations under the aegis of United Nations.
Abdou Abarry knows Cameroon well, he graduated from the Cameroon Institute of International Relations (IRIC). He has to thank the Cameroonian authorities for this opportunity in his training.

Appointed as Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in Central Africa based in Gabon, Abdou Abarry has extensive experience in diplomacy. He has notably been the Permanent Representative of Niger at the UN headquarters in New York, the Special Representative of the Chairperson of the Commission of the African Union (AU) in the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ambassador of Niger to Belgium, Adviser to the Embassy of Niger to the United States, Head of AU Liaison Office to the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in Abuja, Nigeria, Diplomatic Advisor to the President of Niger, Director General of Protocol of state.
