Three employees of the NGO Nurses without Borders, a Spanish and two Ethiopians, were killed in an attack in the Tigray region in northern Ethiopia, the Spanish branch of Nurses without Borders announced on Friday (June 25th). In recent days, Tigray has been the scene of renewed violence.

According to the organization, It is a Spaniard and two Ethiopians. “We lost contact with them and the car in which they were traveling yesterday afternoon, and this morning the vehicle was found empty and their bodies lifeless a few meters away,Nurses without Borders said in a statement denouncing “A brutal assassination“.

In fact, María Hernández, of Spanish nationality and aged 35, was one of the Nurses without Borders emergency coordinators in Tigray. Yohannes Halefom Reda and Tedros Gebremariam Gebremichael, both Ethiopians and aged 31, were coordinating assistant and driver for the NGO.

The United Nations, which denounced the “scandalous and distressing” murders, called for an independent investigation to shed light on this tragedy. The new attack comes days after a strike by the Ethiopian army left at least 64 dead and 180 wounded in a region which has been in the grip of a bloody conflict for several months.
