Nollywood comic actor Amaechi Muonagor has passed away at the age of 62, a family member confirmed this to local media. Reports indicate that he succumbed to kidney failure on Sunday while undergoing dialysis, as disclosed by local media.
Veteran Nollywood actor Amaechi Muonagor passed away on Sunday after a prolonged battle with kidney failure. He was 62 years old. The news was first announced by social commentator Morris Monye on his social media platform. Monye expressed his deep sorrow at Muonagor’s passing, highlighting his talent and mastery on screen. He also acknowledged the recent viral video where Muonagor sought public support for a kidney transplant. “This tragic loss highlights the need for better healthcare in our country,” Monye wrote. According to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), Muonagor, a native of Idemili in Anambra state, was born on August 20, 1962. He was not only an actor but also a film producer. His talent was recognized in 2016 with a nomination for Best Actor in a Comedy at the 2017 African Movie Viewers Choice Awards (AMVCA).
Amaechi Muonago was also the founder of a non-profit organization called the Amaechi Muonagor Foundation. His organization provides scholarships to underprivileged students and supports various charitable causes. Amaechi Muonago was married and blessed with four kids. Nov 3, 2023, the comic actor made it known to the public that he had been suffering from a partial stroke that paralyzed half of his left leg and appealed to the public for financial assistance. The tragic news of Mounagor’s death hit the internet on the evening of Sunday, March 24, 2024. This is coming barely one week after a video circulated online showing the actor lying still in bed, requesting financial aid to support his kidney transplant.
Muonagor’s career began in 1989 after his mandatory youth service. He initially worked for the News Agency of Nigeria before transitioning into acting a few years later. His debut film role was Akunatakasi in “Taboo 1,” a pivotal Nigerian movie. The Nollywood industry mourns the loss of a respected actor who leaves behind a legacy of entertaining performances. Muonagor’s death comes just weeks after the passing of another popular Nollywood actor, John Okafor, better known by his stage name Mr Ibu. Okafor also died at the age of 62. Local reports indicate he passed away at a hospital in Lagos state after battling health issues for the past year, which included the amputation of one of his legs in November. These losses leave a significant void in the Nollywood industry, and Muonagor will be remembered for his entertaining performances.pen_sparktunesharemore_vert
