Joseph Beti Assomo is holding this May 7th 2021 a meeting with the heads of the country’s defense and security forces.

The Minister of Defense is surrounded by his Secretary of State in charge of the Gendarmerie, the Minister of Territorial Administration, the Delegate General for National Security, the Directors of Foreign Research and Presidential Security, the Commanders of the Regions military and gendarmerie and the army chief of staff. During this meeting, Joseph Beti Assomo and the heads of the defense and security forces will assess the security situation in the country.

This security assessment has taken place in a context marked for several years by security crises in several regions. In particular in the Far North with the attacks and attacks of the Islamist sect Boko Haram, in Adamawa and in the North with kidnappings of people and goods by armed men, in the East with the incursions of armed groups in the border with the Central African Republic and in the North West and South West, with the separatists of the Anglophone crisis who continue to sow desolation.

In addition to all these threats, there is the Covid-19 pandemic, which continues to devastate populations. The security assessment meeting comes two weeks before the celebration of May 20, the National Day of Unity. It has been marked in the past by a military parade on Boulevard du 20 Mai in the presence of the Head of State, head of the armed forces. But due to the Covid, the festivities around May 20 have been canceled since 2020.

Today’s security assessment meeting allows decision-makers to take major guidance on the prevailing situation. Because it is a question for the defense and security forces of ensuring the daily security of people and their property, as well as the preservation of order, peace and territorial integrity.
